Here is a gallery recapping my afternoon among the wonders of Fillmore Glen, a New York State park, Moravia, New York. I visited there during the New York COVID-19 “PAUSE.” ENJOY!!

I think this is the most diverse display of local plants you’ve shown. The spiraling fern tips are especially attractive.

It is a special place, untouched and natural.

Last year we spent two nights with friends in Moravia, close to that park.

Yes, the park entrance is in town, near the school.

I love the photo of the fiddleheads. They look almost alien. So beautiful.

That plant does seem otherworldly when unfolding. I have not made it back to the spot to see what it developed into, to make an identification.

We have a similar plant (pink) that curl like that but it’s dark brown to green and it’s called Silver Fern.

I looked it up and Silver Fern is a tree fern endemic to New Zealand. The curling new growth has a special name, koru. Our ferns are similar, with a complex curl. This plant curl is different, simpler. I need to get back there to identify it.
