In the heart of Ithaca, there’s a bridge over the Cayuga Lake Inlet that’s become the canvas for a local artist whose muse is, apparently, an eccentric wizard with a penchant for modern hieroglyphs. This isn’t your average, run-of-the-mill Gandalf or Dumbledore. No, this fellow looks like he’s had one too many espressos while trying to solve the Sunday crossword.
Wizard
The first photograph captures our wizard friend in full urban regalia, his expression a mix of surprise and indignation, as if he’s just been told that his magic staff has been towed for illegal parking. Splashed across the concrete in a palette of blues, reds, and wild scribbles, it seems he’s the guardian of the bridge, warding off evil spirits or maybe just pigeons with particularly bad attitudes.

The word “FEAR” is spelled out, but it seems less like a warning and more like a commentary on his own startled state. And let’s not overlook the pointed hat – a fashion statement that screams, “I’ve been shopping at Merlin’s millinery!”
Ivy
The second image is less about our spray-painted sorcerer and more about nature’s slow reclamation of the urban sprawl. Ivy creeps up the wall, autumnally tinged leaves blushing red at the tips as if embarrassed to be seen in such a haphazard gallery. It’s as though nature itself decided to soften the edges of the graffiti with a touch of fall couture.

The ivy seems to be in a silent battle with the graffiti, an organic game of tug-of-war. “To cover or not to cover?” that is the question. And it seems the ivy is winning, inch by leafy inch. Maybe it’s nature’s way of saying, “Nice try with the spray cans, but watch what happens when I unleash my fall foliage!”
But back to our wizard – let’s call him Alphazar, the Astonished. Alphazar’s face is a theater of emotions. His red eyes might be from conjuring spells or perhaps from binge-watching wizarding tutorials on WitchTube. Whatever the case, he’s become a local celebrity, the unsung hero of Ithaca, keeping a watchful eye on the passersby, whispering spells of protection, or possibly just muttering about the latest sports scores.
The bridge itself has become an unlikely hotspot for those seeking a chuckle or a moment of contemplation. Tourists can be heard pondering, “What does it all mean?” while locals might just nod in familiarity, “Oh, that’s just Alphazar doing his thing.”
In the end, this bridge over Cayuga Lake Inlet is a reminder that art and humor can pop up in the most unexpected places. Whether it’s the audacious expressions of local street artists or the relentless march of the seasons, there’s always something to tickle the fancy and provoke a smile. And as the leaves continue to fall, softly layering over Alphazar’s concrete canvas, we’re reminded that in Ithaca, even the bridges can serve as backdrops for a seasonal chuckle or two.

I wish the artist would stumble across your storytelling. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
