A lone sprig of Ironweed hangs on from a cliff edge moss carpet off the South Rim Trail, Taughannock Falls New York State Park, Finger Lakes Region.

Fallen Oak Leaf, Summer

Fallen Leaf on a Moss Carpet

Oak leaves hold on through the winter and last through the next season after the new leaves push the last ones off early spring.

This leaf lay on a moss carpet within in a hemlock grove on a bluff above Treman Lake, Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca New York.  The moss carpet is extensive in the dense shade of the hemlocks.

Treman lake is formed by a dam on Buttermilk Creek, the trail around the lake is less frequented and popular with the locals, climbing up and down the glacially formed hills.  Some popular resorts maintain trails that feed into the park.
